I’ve always wanted to paint this row of houses at Tynemouth near the Watch House Museum. I was partly inspired by Monet’s Houses at Argenteuil (1873) in which he painted a residential scene, the place where he lived, in the height of Summer, framed by vegetation and wildflowers. I was also really drawn to the subtle ‘L’ shaped composition provided by the Collingwood Monument. It was such a joy to paint at the coast on a bright day.
